FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Who can vote?

Voting is open to anyone across Canada with a valid email address. Even if you are out of the country at the moment you are allowed to vote.

My wife/ husband/ child/ friend and I share one email address. How can they vote?

Only one vote is allowed per email address. If your wife/husband/child/friend wishes to vote they would need to acquire their own email address.

My wife/ husband/ child/ friend and I share one computer. How can they vote?

As long as they have their own email address, it does not matter which computer they register/cast their vote from.

Why do you require all the information on the registration page?

The information is required to ensure the integrity of the Maple Blues Awards process, and will not be used for any other purpose. The balloting system records your IP address and other information as a security procedure to protect against multiple voting. Please note if multiple registrations from one source are detected, all ballots from that source will be discarded.

What if I don't want to vote for any of the nominees in a specific category?

You may select "Abstain" if you do not wish to cast a vote in a specific category.

Where are the Instrumental categories to vote on?

Winners in instrumental categories — guitar, harmonica, piano/keyboards, horn, drum, and bass — will be determined by the Nominating Panel. But you can vote for winners in all other categories.

What is the criteria for selecting the nominees for Entertainer of the Year?

The Entertainer of the Year nominees are any Group or artist who showed the most overall success in the previous year. This could include a combination of live performances, touring, airplay, media coverage, and public acceptance.

What is the criteria for selecting the nominees for Recording/Producer of the Year?

Nominated recordings in this category must be released during the eligibility period: September 1, 2022 to September 30, 2023. To qualify in this category the release must be at least 20 minutes in length or consist of 6 unique, previously unreleased tracks. (Alternate versions of tracks on the release, such as remixes, acoustic versions, etc. do not qualify as "unique".)

What is the criteria for selecting the nominees for New Artist or Group of the Year?

The New Artist or Group of the Year is awarded to any group or individual, new to the national blues scene, who has made considerable advances artistically and/or commercially during the eligibility period. The nominee should be performing under its/his/her name on a regular basis and must not have been nominated in any Maple Blues Awards category previously. The award recognizes the group or individual.

Is there an application process for Maple Blues Awards?

There is no application process for the Maple Blues Awards. Nominations are drawn from the expertise of the MBA Nominating Panel. Members of the nominating panel are required to be familiar with Canadian blues artist activity and CD releases. Artists are encouraged to service new releases to all blues radio DJs, journalists and industry professionals across Canada to increase their national profile.

What is the deadline for voting?

Ballots must be received by 11:59 pm Eastern Time December 1st, 2023. Only one ballot will be accepted per person. Security procedures are in place to guard against multiple voting. Late ballots will not be counted.
